- Sensibility: A very quiet infant and a few strange character progressions give pause in a film that really should be more unreasonable than it is.
- Cinematography: The film has a lot to offer visually and sound design is incredible. The film has some of the most interesting camera work I've seen, particularly in the opening half.
However, the film is plagued, pun intended, by some very poor CGI deer and water.
- Energy: Great watch with a particularly strong opening half. A couple of tangents narratively that feel unimporant and a very strange, off-beat ending create some bumps but nothing
that ruins the ride.
- Narrative: The film is conceptually very strong, with great ideas for an isolated island with a tribalism and a speciation of the virus. However, a bit with a Swede and a very bizarre end sequence
feel like distractions.
- T-Points: The film received three bonus points: one for a great montage of real war-footage with a reading of a poem, one for a set of incredible kill-shots, and the concept of the viral species adapting and having it's own form of natural selection.
A film that recaptures some of the magic of the first film after the rather poor 28 Weeks Later sequel. With the series back on track,
I am excited to see where the rest of the films have to offer.
