- S: The movie has serious issues. Bonhoeffer's character change from devoted pacificist to plotting murderer is not well communicated and feels abrupt. The second trip to the U.S.
in the film serves no purpose and doesn't fit in context, especially with his return to Germany after his again pointless visit to the U.K. Given the violence
shown in previous arrests, his arrest is particularly gracious as he is able to kiss his mother goodbye. The ending scene is full of plot holes, particularly his
conversations with the guard and his solo-execution. His seemingly endless perseverance throughout the rest of the film ends with an abrupt surrender with one last
opportunity to escape.
- C: The ageing/de-aging of characters is surprisingly well done. There are some great shots, but also some mistakes particularly near the ending with shots and scenes that are excessive.
- E: The back and forth in time works for a bit, but then falls apart near the end. The film is far too long with probably an hour of footage that should have been left on the cutting room floor.
- N: The script doesn't do the real Bonhoeffer justice. The jazz narrative feels silly and pointless and his travels and ending are so full of plot holes, with
real details that could flesh out the sensibility, that they are rendered worthless.
- T: The film received one bonus point for a decent transition and narrative tie-in with the word "eternity."
A real story done wrong by poor writing. The film spends too much time on the wrong things.
