- S: The story is sensible in a very tragic kind of way. Only curiosity is how Dan is not fired.
- C: Paragon of framing and editing. The shot choices and framing do an incredible job of making the critical moments extremely intimate. The editing elevates
the actor's performances to near perfect levels. Costuming and sets also enhance the film's sense of reality.
- E: An incredible story, incredible performances, and incredible editing make the pacing of this film nearly unbeatable. The music is also quirky and
interesting, but not distracting.
- N: The story is full of outrageously good writing. The dialogue between all the different characters has such a tangible reality to them. The film has such intense and
nuanced dialogue that it almost feels biographical.
- T: The film received all five possible bonus points: one for the incredibly well written story and dialogue, one for excellent shot framing, one for perhaps one of the best
edited films I've ever seen,
one for Shareeka Epps' magnificent child-acting performance, and one for Ryan Gosling's career defining performance.
I love this movie. It has such a personal touch to it. This is one of the first movies I ever saw that
really made me dive into thinking about cinema. This film is so underrated in my opinion, and I'm surprised it doesn't get more attention even to this day.
It shocks me that Shareeka Epps didn't have a massive career after this jaw-dropping performance.
