- S: Dae-Su Oh's inexplicable freedom while on the lamb, self-taught fighting skills, and the incredible power of the hypnosis in the film are the only elements that require some strained suspension of disbelief.
- C: No other film looks like this. So many incredibly technical and beautiful frames and scenes throughout. The fight choreography is a bit clunky at times, but this awkwardnes actually works
with the narrative. Costuming and makeup are flawless, particularly excellent for a film with this much gore.
- E: Unbelievable, edge-of-your-seat, action-packed, revenge-thriller. This is the paragon for what a revenge-thriller film should be. Interesting, ethically challenging narrative with
near perfect execution makes for an incredible watch. Only negative is that it does suffer a bit on re-watch, because the big reveal at the end is so integral to the film and unforgettable.
- N: There is no other revenge story quite like this one. Great narrative with excellent moral and ethical complexities that make the story consequential and impactful and leaves the viewer
with an unforgettable feeling.
- T: The film received all five possible bonus points: one for a shot of Dae-Su Oh holding a man's tie preventing him from falling to his death, one for a brutal close-up shot of teeth removal, one for a stunning
pan shot of Mi Do asleep after bandaging Dae-Su Oh's back-stab wound, one for a technically challenging and visually stunning mirror shot of Dae-Su Oh and Lee Woo-jin near the end, and one for the unforgettable
tongue cutting.
This film is so visually stunning and unforgettable that I think it actually might hurt its rewatchability. The story is unlike any other of its kind. Visually and narratively iconinc.
