- S: Painfully sensible, other than the fact that a husband would endure such humiliation with such ease.
- C: Great blend of cinematic shots with narrative. Casting is so excellent that the transition from kids to adults is recognizable. A couple of moments I thought the editing took away from a shot or scene.
A film like this with the emotional content it has begs for long takes, which I think were a bit too sparse.
- E: Painful, romantic film. Very well paced, even though there are fairly long bits of little or subtle dialogue. Camera work does a great job of maintaining the tension. However, there is a
bit of a lull when Nora goes on her artist's retreat.
- N: This is such a simple story which is made brilliant by pristine dialogue writing. Only, nit-picky, critique is that the families feel somewhat absent in the story, when they seem particularly
critical to the events at the beginning of the film.
- T: The film received four bonus points: one for brilliant scenes between the child actors, one for a touching scene where long-lost friends are first re-united,
one for a nuanced conversation between a married couple in bed, and one for a great shot of two diverging paths, and one for the unique opening scene introducing the characters that is paralleled by a
scene near the end of the film.
I can't believe it took me so long to get around to watching this film. Excellent writing, acted brilliantly, with great framing, sets, and camera-work; what's not to like?
