- S: No issues.
- C: Unbelievable creative down to the finest details. Animation quality is outstanding.
- E: Every part of this movie is filled with details that give the characters, set, and story vibrant life.
- N: There's something just right about the way this story captures a young, innocent, love.
- T: This film receives all five possible bonus points: one for the incredible soundtrack, one for the great mother-son dynamic in the morse-code light scene, one for the all-around brilliance of the scene where Ponyo runs across the water to Sosuke,
one for the spiritual undertones of the film that make it nostalgic of youth but still so heartwarming and full of youthful energy, and one for the presence of so many minor details that add so much
(like an Octopus climbing through an open doorway and a shrunken sailor's hat)
A masterpiece by all accounts. This may be a hot take, but I think it's Miyazaki's best.
