- Sensibility: The nature of destruction in the forward and reverse creates pretty large plot holes throughout, particularly a fire burn and car damage. On top of this, hindsight actually makes
the plot more convoluted, making for tremendous strain in rationalizing the nature of the reality and the characters' decision-making.
- Cinematography: Visually brilliant. The camera work and scene choreography for the forwards and backwards flow of time is absolutely incredible. However, the audio mixing is so incredibly bad that it is often very challenging to hear the dialogue.
- Energy: The complexity of the narrative and nearly constant action keep things moving. Booming soundtrack and sound design help keep things moving even with the confusing timelines, but the strain to
hear the dialogue definitely detracts from the experience.
- Narrative: The premise is incredibly strong and thought provoking, but some of the follow through is lacking. A couple of melodramatic speeches between hero and villain and heroes detracts massively from the realism the film is already struggling to hold onto.
- T-Points: The film received one bonus point for the filming of the inverted sequences.
Probably my least favorite Nolan film. This film stands out in my mind as a pre-eminent example of a major production with such glaring sound issues. It makes a film that is already very hard to understand narratively even more challenging.
