- S: This film lacks the narrative depth to justify large swaths of the story. The cheating scandal doesn't make sense given his devotion to his wife and the chase scene and end-sequence are full
of holes: why didn't guards show up at the law office to stop him, why didn't the perpetrators just shoot him in public, how does he possibly get through to see the crime family, why does he go back to the house,
why does the fed meet him at the house, why does the wife go back to the house, and more questions.
- C: Some good, but some bad. There is some rather noticeable voice-over and there are some moments near the end where the camera feels, accidentally and jarringly, out of focus.
- E: The film is undoubtedly a fun watch and its pacing and energy are the best parts of the film.
- N: The film feels like its from a book, which isn't a good thing. It's clear that the book had the time to lay out the details to make a more thorough narrative. The lack of issues with Mitch's master plan
seems extremely fantastical. The brother and Holly Hunter's characters are very weak, particularly given their simple ending. The feds also feel particularly behind the ball, even more so than the most critical
detective films.
- T: The film received one bonus point for a great final conversation between husband and wife.
Fun watch but a lot of issues. This is one of the few movies that actually makes me want to read the book more, but only because it feels like this film didn't quite do it justice.
