- S: Only things that don't track are some moments meant to build suspense/add to the psychological thriller aspects of the film: creaking sounds, a rising corpse, and opening doors.
- C: This film is beautiful. There are so many standout shots with excellent framing. In particular, a shot of a boss hearing a proposition, a scene with a couple's argument,
a scene about walking home, a dinner scene closeup, and a burial. The house and set choices are excellent, and the costuming is near perfect.
- E: The downward spiral of the family is coupled perfectly with an upward trajectory of suspense. You know where it's going, but you can't look away.
- N: An old story with brilliant nuance. The character's are so clearly written that they feel incredibly real.
- T: The film received all five possible bonus points. There are so many great things about this film: Carrie Coon's incredible performance and facial expressions which I feel just exactly detail the character arc and emotional complexities
of Allison's relationship with her children and spouse, Jude Law's perfect performance which just perfectly embodies the character and informs
the viewer instantly the kind of person Rory O'Hara is and will be, and a ton of incredible scenes including a heated argument between Rory and Allison; an incredible scene between Rory and his mother which demonstrates
how a little scene can communicate a huge message; a scene in a taxi-cab followed by a walk home; and a let-loose dance scene.
I am blown away every time I watch this film. There's so much nuance in the portrayal of the characters even though its clear from the beginning who and what they all are.
